There was a time when Green keepers only considered pedestrian aerators, however with the development of the compact tractors the Groundsman 8120 (4ft) Tractor Mounted Aerator made more Green keepers feel comfortable with the tractor mounted machinery. However in recent years and significantly in sales this year the Groundsman 12180 (6ft) Tractor Mounted Aerator has become acceptable for greens.
In Ireland this year to date there has been 3 sold. In February the Moyola Park Golf Course purchased one and John Logan Green keeper has been delighted with the model. He successfully cored and top dressed inside two days. (Picture shows hollow coring using side discharge tines in operation)
In March, Knock Golf Club in Belfast joined with new neighbours Royal Belfast in purchasing a Groundsman 12180, new Head Groundsman Lee Eager is delighted with his machine. He prefers needle tining in the spring and coring in the autumn.
The third machine in Ireland was at another unique venue in Dublin, Guinness, the world famous drink have a fantastic sports complex for their workers at Inveigh Grounds St James Gate. Here the contractor, Mt Ralph Condie Proprietor of Leinster Sport Equipment purchased a Groundsman 12180 which is used primarily on Rugby, Gaelic Football and a Pitch and Putt Course. So now it’s a case of, have a Guinness, and have a Groundsman!!
The continued success of the Groundsman 12180 model was exampled by the first overseas export of a 12180 model to Spanish agent Atica of Barcelona. Altogether a very successful start to the year for the 12180 model. |

THUMBS UP FOR THE NEW GROUNDSMAN TC HYD TURF MULTI CUTTER AND WEDGE BLADE PIPE INSERTION ATTACHMENT |
The new Groundsman TCHYD Turf Multi Cutter fitted with the Pipe Insertion Attachment was used in two large scale landscape projects. One was on light soil before the turf was laid. The other was on existing turf with medium light soil.
The wedge blade parts the soil to enable insertion of the pipe, a press roller attaches to the blade to close the trench. The width of the trench can be seen in the picture above where the trench has been left open. These were motorway projects in Israel and the machine performed equally well on bare soil and existing grass. Traction was good with an average forward speed of 30 meters per minute. Smaller irrigation projects have also been completed by the same company in a variety of conditions where access would normally be a major problem. |
A one hundred meter coil of dripper feed irrigation pipe is mounted on a special reel incorporating a feed damper to prevent pipe buckle. The Wedge Blade Trenching system developed by Groundsman Industries inserts pipe down to a depth of 120mm in a one pass operation. Little trace or disturbance is visible when the work is completed. See pictures right and below. The contractors comment that they can now offer a service to their customers that they could not before. |
The tail ends of the dripper pipe can be seen exposed at either end of the trench before connection to the water supply. Picture left. Along the trench the pipe lengths are connect above ground at the reel and inserted by the machine. Grass surface disruption is minimized.

Groundsman Research and Development
Department Invest in Hi tech Test Equipment |
Until now Groundsman Industries have had to rely on consultants to find out exactly how much noise and vibration an operator is subjected to when using Groundsman products. On January this year Groundsman invested is some very impressive equipment which can test and analyze actual in work situations for Whole Body and Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) and Noise Exposure.
Accurate Hand Arm Vibrations are measured in a range of working by attaching a small sensor called an accelerometer at the operators handles. This sensor measures X Y Z axis vibrations over a pre-determined time frame and feeds the information into a portable meter. The meter analysis this information as it happens creating a log of time frame tests. Whole body is measured in the same manner by the use of a seat pad accelerometer.
The noise meter is equally sophisticated and portable with the ability to break the noise levels into bands and time frames. A more accurate analysis can be achieved in this manner for example to determine which category of ear defender will be most effective.
Special software enables the noise and vibration information to be loaded to a computer where automatic reports and graphs can be created and printed.
Click this link to see some video footage of these tests being performed.

BTME Exhibition Harrogate
Since 1990 Groundsman Industries have been exhibiting at the BTME Exhibition in Harrogate. On the third week of January this venue is crammed with exhibitors and visitors from around the world. On stand A11 Groundsman displayed their unique range of Turf Aerators, Core Collectors and Turf Cutters. Last year Groundsman revealed their state of the art patented Turf Multi Cutter which was described then as a world beater and now is proving it. Brian Thompson second left in the picture explains that we never miss with this product in demonstrations in our home patch the UK and Ireland. It sells and now it is opening the doors to export in Germany, Italy Spain, and Australia. Unikom in Germany took one into stock at the SALTEX exhibition at Windsor in September as a demonstrator and were so impressed they ordered another six on the stand at Harrogate with three ordered for Italy.
